OPTIONAL

Would you like to show us your talent? We would love to see it through the code solution for the problem listed below. You can attach the code with your application!

You need to build a web service that computes valid room upgrades.

The inventory for a given hotel is based on a list of room categories defined by:

  • A room type (single, double, suite, presidential, etc)
  • A room code (string of 16 characters)
  • The number of rooms available at the hotel
  • A price per night for that room

An upgrade from one room code to another is valid if:

  • The price of the upgrade room is larger than the price of the original room
  • The upgrade room and the original room have to be in the same hotel

Exercise:

  • Create the database structure to support the inventory of thousands of hotels with several room categories each
  • Implement a web service using PHP and MySQL that will receive a hotel code, room code, and return all available room upgrades based on the rules defined above.
  • 1-2 hours max time

An “available room upgrade” is a set of: (1) base room code (2) upgrade room code (3) upgrade price (equals to the difference of prices of the base and upgrade room)

Your code should be production ready, testable and maintainable.
Please show your knowledge of object oriented programming, design patterns and other relevant software engineering practices.
